Distal Renal Tubular Acidosis with Grade 4 Vesicoureteral Reflux in a Child with Single Kidney

چکیده
Renal tubular acidosis (RTA) is a non-uremic defects of urinary acidification. It is characterized by a normal anion gap hyperchloremic metabolic acidosis; plasma potassium may be normal, low or highdepending on the type of RTA. These syndromes differ from uremic acidosis which is associated with a high anion gap, decreased glomerular filtration with enhanced proton secretion by the remaining nephrons.

متن کاملPrediction of Kidney Damage in Ultrasound Compared with Dimercaptosuccinic Acid in Children with Pyelonephritis and Vesicoureteral Reflux
Background and purpose: Ultrasound is easily available, cheap, non-invasive and radiation-free that could be considered as an alternative to Dimercaptosuccinic Acid (DMSA) in evaluation of kidney damage. The aim of this study was to determine the prediction of kidney damage in ultrasound compared with DMSA (standard method) in children with pyelonephritis and vesicoureteral reflux. Materials a...

A 43-day old infant with myelomeningocele was evaluated for feeding problems and ill appearance. The presence of metabolic acidosis, hyponatermia and hypercalemia suggested renal tubular acidosis type IV. Later examination showed urinary tract infection together with bilateral vesicoureteral reflux. After treatment of the infection, metabolic acidosis and electrolyte imbalances were resolved an...
